Francis Palgrave
Sir Francis Palgrave, born Francis Cohen, (1788 - 1861) was a historian.

He was born in London, the son of the Jewish stockbroker. He converted to Christianity when he married in 1823, also changing his surname to "Palgrave" (his wife's mother's maiden name). He published a number of historical documents, and focused on medieval history. His works include A History of the Anglo-Saxons (1831), The Rise and Progress of the English Commonwealth (1832), Truths and Fictions of the Middle Ages (1837) and The History of Normany and England (1851-64, four volumes).

He was the father of poet and anthologist Francis Turner Palgrave and Arabic scholar William Gifford Palgrave.
