Fra Diavolo
Fra Diavolo (lit. Brother Devil; April 7, 1771–November 11, 1806), is the popular name given to Michele Pezza, a famous Italian brigand leader who resisted the French occupation of Naples and is remembered in folk legends and in the novels of the French writer Alexandre Dumas as a popular guerilla leader. Popular superstition invested him with the character of both a monk and a demon, giving rise to his nickname, though it seems that at one time he may have actually been a monk.
