This is said to have been the inspiration for Grimpen Mire in the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This wide expanse of peat bog continues to be dangerous to walkers, especially after heavy rain. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
