~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A foundry is a factory which produces castings of metal, both ferrous and non-ferrous. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Most foundries specialise in particular metals, and have furnaces dedicated to these. For example a ferrous metal (steel) foundry will normally use a small electric furnace, while a lead foundry will use a cupola, similar to a small blast furnace. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
