Fontainebleau is a city and commune in central France.

Geography

Fontainebleau is situated in the south-east of the Seine-et-Marne département (of which it is the sous-préfecture) in the Île-de-France région. It is located approximately 50km south of Paris. The city has an area of 172km2, and a population of 15,942 (in 1999).
