A flash-forward, also sometimes known as a flash-ahead is a narrative device used in some motion pictures, often as one or more scenes representing an event expected, projected or imagined to occur at a time later than the present depiction. While flash-forwards are used less frequently than flashbacks, they are recognised as being useful in defining the futuristic structure of science fiction stories, or in depicting the ambitions of a character.
