Finding Forrester

Finding Forrester is a 2000 movie, written by Mike Rich and directed by Gus Van Sant, about a black teenager, Jamal Wallace, played by Rob Brown, who gets accepted into an prestigous private high school. He also befriends a reclusive writer, William Forrester, played by Sean Connery.

Notables

  • Co-star Rob Brown is actually from Harlem, and was trying to get a job as an extra in this film. Instead, Van Sant was so impressed with him that he offered Brown the lead role of Jamal Wallace.
  • During filming, it was discovered that Connery didn't know how to type. All the shots of Forrester's hands typing are, in fact, the hands of a similarly aged extra who knew how to type.
  • One of Forrester's more awkwardly-delivered lines, "You're the man now, dog!" has since become an internet meme on pop culture websites such as Fark, Something Awful, and even an entire site of its own, YTMND. The humour derived from this line is that it's not something you'd expect to hear from a 70-year-old Scotsman. http://www.yourethemannowdog.com/
