Film Threat


 

Film Threat is the name of a magazine and website devoted to coverage of independent film. It is the long-term project of Chris Gore.

The print version started in 1984 as a zine and evolved over the late 1980s into a more typical magazine format. It ceased publication in 1997, but the Film Threat web site has been very active since then. The Film Threat editorial staff includes Jim Agnew, Rory L. Aronsky, Chris Barsanti, Mark Bell, Merle Bertrand, Sommer Browning, Doug Brunell, Eric Campos, Stina Chyn, Kevin Carr, Michael Ferraro, David Grove, Phil Hall, Rick Kisonak, Jeremy Knox, Heidi Martinuzzi, Jeremy Mathews, Mariko McDonald, Tim Merrill, Chris Parcellin, Brad Slager, Pete Vonder Haar, Mike Watt, S. James Wegg, Dan Wible and Chris Wiegand.

Film Threat's annual "Frigid 50" list of Hollywood's "coldest" celebrities (the polar opposite of lists from other publications highlighting "hot" stars) has gained attention for its sharp skewering of the Tinseltown set.

Film Threat has also launched a Film Threat DVD line, specializing in contemporary independent and underground cinema.
