FIFA
Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the international governing body of the sport of association football (called simply football or soccer). It is based in Zürich, Switzerland. The current FIFA president is Joseph S. Blatter, of Switzerland. FIFA's name could be rendered as International Federation of Football Associations in English, but FIFA is almost always referred to by the French name and acronym in English dialogue.

FIFA was formed in Paris on May 21, 1904 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2004. It announced in April 2004 that it is expecting to earn $144 million profit on $1.64 billion in revenue between 2003 and 2006. On May 20th 2004, FIFA commemorated their 100th year with a centennial match of Brazil vs. France.

The organisation works in conjunction with regional arms that oversee football development in the different parts of the world. The six confederations that comprise FIFA (and the regions that they govern) are:

FIFA organises, amongst others, the following football competitions:

FIFA also promotes the sport, regulates the transfer of players between teams, awards the FIFA World Player of the Year, and publishes the FIFA World Rankings every month and the FIFA Women's World Rankings quarterly.

The laws of football that govern the game, are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which consists of four representatives from FIFA. and one representative each from The Football Association, the Scottish Football Association, the Football Association of Wales, and the Irish Football Association.

FIFA and EA Sports also produce versions of the game on PC and various game consoles approximately every year, along with World Cup editions. (See FIFA series for a detailed description of each.) There is also a Street version of the game (see FIFA Street for more information). FIFA organises a competition for the computer series, the FIFA Interactive World Cup.
