Fantasia para un Gentilhombre

Fantasia para un Gentilhombre (Spanish "Fantasy for a Gentleman") is a 1954 work by the Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo. The first movement opens itself with a melodic villano which phases between the solo guitarist and the orchestra. The second part of the first movement, called the ricercare, is a short piece contrasting with the villano, and entirely based on a two-bar phrase. The second movement returns to a more lyrical theme, especially the españoleta, which has a particularly haunting tune with rich accompanient of the strings. The second part of this movement, Fanfare de la Cabellería de Nápoles brings in rapid, discordant drum beats along with the accompanient of the guitar and spectral fanfares for trumpet and flute. The third movement, Danza de las Hachas, meaning ?hatchet dance? has an energetic dance beat, largely supported by a large crescendo from the orchestra. Finally. the Canarios brings in several guitar compositions and music from a folk dance originating in the Canary Islands.
