Fanta


 

Fanta is a soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. It was originally invented by Max Keith in Germany in 1940 when World War II made it difficult to get the Coca-Cola syrup to Nazi Germany. Fanta was originally made from byproducts of cheese and cider production. The name comes from the German word for imagination (Fantasie or Phantasie). After World War II, Fanta was introduced to America by Coca-Cola, and in 1960 they bought the trademark. Fanta Orange is the most popular Fanta flavor, but there are several other citrus and fruit flavors such as apple, strawberry, pineapple, and grape. Diet editions of different Fanta flavours also exists in some countries. Fanta is available in over 180 countries.

Fanta Orange is more popular in Europe and South America than the United States, and the products are formulated differently, with the European version having real orange juice. In terms of volume, Brazil is the largest consumer of Fanta in the world.

There are over 70 flavors world-wide; however, most of them are only available locally in some countries. For example, in Romania, there is "Fanta Shokata", based on the traditional Romanian drink "Socată" made from elderflower.
