Fannie Flagg

Fannie Flagg (born September 21, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American author and actress. She was born Patricia Neal, a name she evidently could not use as there was already an actress named Patricia Neal, and an Oscar winner to boot.

She wrote the screenplay to Fried Green Tomatoes, the well-received 1991 movie based on the latter book, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Fried Green Tomatoes starred Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary Louise Parker, and Cicely Tyson.
