Eydie Gormé, whose real name is Edith Gormezano, was born on August 16, circa 1931, (although she may be older) in The Bronx, New York City to Sephardic Jewish immigrant parents.

She graduated high school in 1946 (the late Stanley Kubrick attended the school at the same time) and worked for the United Nations as a translater given her fluency in the Spanish language.

She became a singer/chanteuse, and the wife of actor Steve Lawrence on December 29, 1957, by whom she had 2 sons, the younger of whom, Michael, died in 1986 at the age of 23.
