~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The World's Fair itself was situated on a floating ocean platform off the coast of the island. The theme of this World's Fair was "the sea we would like to see." This was the first international event hosted by Okinawa since autonomy of the island was given back to Japan in 1972. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ After the Expo was over, the site became Okinawa Commemorative National Government Park (国営沖縄記念公園), as known as Ocean Expo Park. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
