Exalted Cyclops


 

Exalted Cyclops was an officer title and rank used by the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist hate group based in the United States, at its peak in the early to mid 20th century. The rank signified the leader of a local Klan chapter, or Klanton as they were known.

Current United States Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat of West Virginia, attained the rank of Exalted Cyclops on a unanimous vote for Crab Orchard, West Virginia chapter of the group in the 1940's. He was nominated to the position by Joel L. Baskin, a Klan Grand Dragon for the mid-Atlantic region.
