Eurythmy
Eurythmy was created by Austrian Rudolf Steiner in the early 20th century as a way of expressing music and language in movement. It is nowadays a part of the anthroposophical school of thought. The typical Eurythmy piece consists of a geometric form walked on a floor in time to music or a poem. The practitioner will do interpretive forms with the arms that are defined by various elements in the music or words, such as meaning, sound, or interval. Sometimes a copper rod about two feet in length will be used as a prop in the forms. There are no kicks or fancy jumps in Eurythmy. The typical costume consists of a body length tunic of a solid color with a dyed cheese cloth draped over it. Eurythmy is said to have potential as a discipline for all walks of life, including pedagogical, medical, and spiritual. It is considered an integral part of the Waldorf Education by its practitioners.
