Eugen Jochum
Eugen Jochum (November 1, 1902 – March 26, 1987) was a conductor.

Born in Babenhausen, near Augsburg, Germany, Jochum studied the piano and organ in Augsburg and conducting in Munich. His first post was as a rehearsal pianist for the Munich Opera, and then in Kiel.

He made his conducting debut with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in 1927, and the same year he was appointed musical director in Kiel. His early conducting posts including music director at the Berlin Radio, and conductor of the Hamburg Opera, where he performed music by composers such as Paul Hindemith and Béla Bartók elsewhere banned by the Nazis. He later formed the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and conducted the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. In 1975, he was appointed conductor laureate of the London Symphony Orchestra. He conducted often at Bayreuth and in Salzburg.
