Etterbeek within the Brussels-Capital Region ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Etterbeek is one of the nineteen municipalities located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium. On January 1st, 2005 the municipality had a total population of 41,097. The total area is 3.15 km² which gives a population density of 13,049.57 inhabitants per km². ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Its postcode is 1040. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It neighbours the municipalities of The City of Brussels, Ixelles, Auderghem, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Schaerbeek. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The main campus of the Dutch-speaking Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is called Campus Etterbeek, although it is situated on the adjacent territory of Ixelles/Elsene. There is also a rail station called Gare d'Etterbeek but it is located in Ixelles too. Actually, Etterbeek has only one rail station (M?rode) and three metro stations (M?rode, Thieffry and P?tillon). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Two catholic churches are located in this municipality (Saint-Antoine church and Notre-Dame-du-Sacr?-Coeur) since the third one (Sainte-Gertrude church) was destroyed in the nineties as it threatened to collapse. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ In summer 1996, the municipal swimming-pool burnt and is currently open after being rebuilt. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Etterbeek hosts two football clubs (R.R.C. Etterbeek and Armenia) playing in Belgian Provincial leagues at the Guy Thys stadium named after the famous Belgian manager in summer 2003.
