~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Abbe is best known for his work in optics; however, during his association with Carl Zeiss' microscope works, in Jena, he introduced the eight-hour workday, in remembrance of the 14-hour workday of his own father.
