Eric Alterman is a liberal American commentator, Professor of English at Brooklyn College and an author who is currently a political columnist for The Nation. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center For American Progress.

In October 2004, Alterman released - a book version of Alterman's doctoral dissertation on lies of major consequence told by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush. He is currently working on a book about the history of Liberalism.
