Emotions (album)

Emotions is the second album by Mariah Carey, released on September 17 1991 (see 1991 in music). For a hyped follow-up release, it was not the commercial smash expected, selling half of what her first album did in the USA and considerably less worldwide. It did not perform spectularly on the charts, either, becoming one of three non-soundtrack (or compilation)/non-holiday LPs released by Carey not to top the Billboard 200 and only producing one single that was able to top the Billboard Hot 100: the least of any major Carey LP released during the decade. Its critical reception, however, was a mild improvement on that accorded to Mariah Carey, suggesting that she had matured as an artist and a songwriter; she also impressed people as a producer.
