Elmstead

Elmstead is a place in the London Borough of Bromley.

There is much ancient woodland in this area. Elmstead Woods may be

reached from Elmstead Lane. There is a Green Chain walk (pedestrian

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

country walkway) linking the Walden Recreation Ground and the woods.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It's also possible to walk from the woods to Sundridge Park (now a golf

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

club and leisure / conference facility) and to Chinbrook Meadows, a very

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

pleasant park, with a children's play area.

The woods are stunning in the autumn, and are well worth paying a visit.

The actual boundary of Elmstead spreads from Chislehurst West (previously

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

known as 'Prickend' or 'Pricking') to Elmstead Woods railway station, which

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

borders Bickley. The railway station itself celebrated its 100th birthday in

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

August 2004. It has two ponds, complete with fish, and beautiful landscaped

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

garden areas. The station has won many awards. Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

is a short taxi drive away, or a 15 minute walk.

The nearest pub is the Blue Atrium on White Horse Hill, Chislehurst. As at 7th October 2005 this pub is closed for refurbishment.
