Ellijay is a city located in Gilmer County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,584. The city is the county seat of Gilmer County{{GR|6}}.

The city was struck by a flood in September 2004 when Hurricane Ivan dumped enormous amounts of rainfall in the area. A mobile home park was flooded, and one floated down the Cartecay River, smashing into a bridge in town. http://www.11alive.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=52049
