Elizabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate, Duchess of Orléans ( Heidelberg, 27 May 1652 ? Saint-Cloud, 8 December 1722) was a German princess and the wife of Philippe de France, younger brother of Louis XIV of France. Her vast correspondence provides a detailed account of the personalities and activities at the court of her brother-in-law, Louis XIV. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

She was also an ancestress of Francis I and Louis Philippe I and thus many royal houses in Europe such as the Spanish, Italian, Bulgarian, Austrian, Tuscan, and Neapolitan royal families are descended from her. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
