Eliot Fisk


 

Eliot Fisk (born 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a classical guitarist.

He attended Yale University, where he studied under Ralph Kirkpatrick and Albert Fuller.After graduating, he was immediatly asked to form the Guitar Department at the Yale School of Music. In 1974 he met legendary guitarist Andrés Segovia, and soon began private classes with him which lasted for several years. Segovia himself comemnted that Fisk was,"One of the most brilliant, intellegent, and gifted young musical artists of our time..." Fisk is also the holder of all reproductive rights to Andrés Segovia's music, given to him by Segovia's wife, Emilia Segovia.

He was the winner of the International Guitar Competition in 1980.

Fisk has made transcriptions of Paganini's violin concertos and music by J. S. Bach. In addition to his solo concerts, he performs duets with other musicians, including the flautist Paula Robinson, violinist Ruggiero Ricci, and guitarist Joe Pass.

Eliot Fisk is Professor of Guitar at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria,where he conducts classes in five languages, and The New England Conservatory in Boston. Fisk has also given several master classes, including 1st Grenada (1998), 2nd Grenada (1999), and 3rd Grenada (2000). He is also commited to teaching people the art of guitar in places such as prisons, senior centers, and churches.

He currently lives in both Salzburg, Austria, and Boston, Massachusetts with his wife, Zaira, and his four year old daughter, Raquel. Eliot Fisk uses a handmade Thomas Humphrey Millennium classical guitar.
