Elector of Brandenburg


 

The Margrave of Brandenburg was one of the seven Electors of the Holy Roman Empire created by the Golden Bull of 1356. The Margrave of Brandenburg held the ceremonial title of Arch-Chamberlain of the Empire. From 1417 on, the title was vested in the House of Hohenzollern. From 1618, the Electors also held the title of Duke of Prussia, and in 1701, they became Kings in Prussia.
