El Misti
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ El Misti is a volcano located in southern Peru near the city of Arequipa. This city, the second largest in the country, lies at the foot of El Misti in a fertile valley located 2,400 meters above sea level. El Misti (the gentleman) has become the city's enduring symbol. Most of the city's colonial buildings were constructed from El Misti's white volcanic stone (sillar). The volcano's last eruption was in 1870. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
