El Centro, California
El Centro is the county seat of Imperial County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 37,835. It is one of the largest cities in the Imperial Valley and is home to agriculture, transportation, wholesale, and retail industries. El Centro comes from a Spanish phrase meaning the center.

El Centro's largest ethnic group by far is Mexican Americans. Many arrived in the 1960s and 1970s to work at the irrigated agricultural fields, and even more came during the 1990s and 2000s to find jobs.
