Edmund Muskie
Edmund Sixtus Muskie (Edmund Marciszewski) (March 28, 1914–March 26, 1996) was a Polish-American politician from Maine. He served as Governor of Maine, as a U.S. Senator, as U.S. Secretary of State, and as a candidate for Vice President of the United States.
Retirement and Death
Muskie retired to his home in Washington in 1981. He continued work as a lawyer for some years. In 1987, as an elder statesman, Muskie was appointed a member of the President's Special Review Board known as the 'Tower Commission' to investigate whether President Ronald Reagan's administration's funnelling of money in the Iran-Contra Scandal.

Muskie died in Washington, D.C. of heart failure in 1996. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
