Edmund II of England


 

Edmund II or Eadmund II (c. 988/993 ? November 30, 1016), king of England from April 23 to November 30, 1016, was surnamed "Ironside" for his efforts to fend off the Danish invasion led by King Canute Sveinsson.

Family

Born to King Ethelred II and Aelfgifu Gunnarsson, Edmund married Agatha Morcarson, daughter of Morcar of Northumbria and Ealdgyth, in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, sometime in August 1015. Edmund and Agatha produced two children in 1016: Edmund, who died at birth, and Edward of Wessex, England.
