Ed O'Neill


 

Edward O'Neill (April 12, 1946) is an American actor. He is best known for his role as the main character, Al Bundy, on the FOX Network's long running sitcom, Married... with Children. O'Neill is also often cast as policemen on television shows and in movies.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, O'Neill attended Youngstown State University and was a professional football player for the Pittsburgh Steelers and social studies teacher before becoming an actor. He has appeared in several movies, including The Bone Collector, Dutch, and the Wayne's World series.

Besides his role on Married... with Children, other notable television role of O'Neill's is as the reincarnation of Sgt. Joe Friday on Dick Wolf's brief remake of Jack Webb's classic TV crime series, Dragnet. While Married... lasted for ten years (1987-1997), Dragnet lasted only two half-seasons.
