Eatonton is a city located in Putnam County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,764. The city is the county seat of Putnam County{{GR|6}}.

Eatonton's claims to fame are its status as "Dairy Capital of Georgia" (in honor of its major industry, dairy farming), being the birthplace of both Alice Walker (author of The Color Purple) and Joel Chandler Harris (journalist and author of the Uncle Remus stories), and being home to the Egyptian-styled Nuwaubian compound known as Tama-Re.
