Traditionally (post-1945) a large transient population of Australians and New Zealanders stayed in Earl's Court, one of the cheapest areas close to central London: today, there are still large numbers of students or other people on temporary visas, although many of the Australians and New Zealanders appear to have moved to cheaper areas further North. Earl's Court is still known to tourists and visitors to London for its numerous cheap hotels. However, it is a place of contrasts: houses in multiple occupation offering very cheap rents are just a few blocks from The Boltons, where real estate sells for the highest rate per square metre of almost anywhere in Europe.
