E. Fuller Torrey


 

Dr. E. Fuller Torrey is an American psychiatrist and noted schizophrenia researcher. He is a guest researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Neuroscience Center at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He is an active advisor and advocate for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). Dr. Torrey?s sister, Rhoda, has schizophrenia.

Dr. Torrey is the executive director of the Stanley Foundation, the largest private provider of research on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in the United States. The Stanley Foundation also maintains a collection of postmortem brain tissue from individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression and from unaffected controls, which are made available to researchers without charge.
