E. D. Morel
Edmund Dene Morel, originally Georges Edmond Pierre Achille Morel de Ville (July 10, 1873 – November 12, 1924) was a British journalist, author and socialist politician. He led a campaign against slavery in Congo Free State through newspapers such as the West African Mail in collaboration with Roger Casement, the Congo Reform Association. He played a large role in British pacifist movement during the First World War, participating in the foundation and becoming secretary of the Union of Democratic Control. On this occasion he broke with the Liberal Party of which he was previously a member, and after the war he joined the Independent Labour Party.
