Dublin 4

Of all Dublin postal districts, Dublin 4 (D4) is probably the most famous outside the city, due in no small part to it being the location of the national broadcaster RT?. The district also contains the RDS and Lansdowne Road stadium, venues of many sporting events and concerts, adding to awareness of the area. Many foreign embassies are located in D4, due to the prevalence of large Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian buildings.

While "D4" is a short-hand in some Irish circles for liberal-minded progressives, residents of the post-code are also seen as an Irish pastiche of the British 'stiff upper lip' type; but are more akin to moneyed American suburbanites of the OC persuasion. This is partly due to the location in Dublin 4 of a number of fee-paying private secondary schools and Ireland's largest university, University College Dublin. Many of these institutions are famed for the popularity of rugby - considered a mainly upper-middle class sport.
