Drawing Restraint 9
Drawing Restraint 9 is an art film by American artist Matthew Barney, dealing with the relationship between creativity and self-imposed resistance. Shot in Nagasaki Bay, the film is set aboard the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru. On board is a vast sculpture of vaseline entitled "The Field", which continually transforms during the film, most representing the theme of the work. The lead characters, known as "The Guests", are played by Matthew's girlfriend, Björk and Matthew Barney himself. There is only one moment of dialogue within the 135-minute film - during the tea ceremony - which explains the history of the vessel Nisshin Maru.
