Dong Biwu


 
 

Dong Biwu (Chinese: 董必武, Wade-Giles: Tung Pi-wu) (1886 - April 2, 1975) was a Chinese communist political leader during the regime of Mao Zedong. He was the President (Chairman of the Executive Committee) of China from 1948 to 1949 and from 1972 until his death. He was also vice-chairman of the committee from 1968 until 1972, jointly with Song Qingling. He died just a year before Mao and several other important politicians died.
