As the lead-off song from Jackson's solo album, Off the Wall, the song (written by Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones) helped launch Jackson's solo career as a pop star. Jackson won a 1980 Grammy for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The video features Jackson floating over a background of disco lights dancing and smiling while lip-synching to the song in a tux.
