Dodoma


 
 

Dodoma, population 324,347 (2002 census), is the official capital of Tanzania and also the capital of the Dodoma Region. The capital district has a land area of 2.576 km². Dodoma is located at 6°15' South, 35°45' East (-6.25, 35.75). http://earth-info.nga.mil/gns/html/cntry_files.html

In the mid-1970s, plans were made to move the capital to Dodoma. Tanzania's national assembly moved there in February, 1996, but many government offices remain in the original national capital, Dar-es-Salaam.
