The name is believed to be a reference to the popular 1980s prime-time ABC-TV series, "Dynasty." In fact, one magazine declared, "Blake and Krystle, your car is ready," when the car debuted for the 1988 model year.

All Dynasties were produced in Belvidere, Illinois. They were available with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine, a Mitsubishi-built 3.0L V6, and beginning in 1990, a Chrysler-built 3.3L V6. The four-cylinder and 3.0 V6 were available with a three-speed automatic transmission, while the 3.3 was offered solely with Chrysler's then-new (and troublesome) electronically-controlled four-speed automatic transmission. The four-speed was also made available for 3.0-powered Dynasties as well.
