DJ Screw
DJ Screw, born Robert Earl Davis, Jr. (27 June 1971, Bastrop, Louisiana–16 november 2000), was a central figure in the Houston rap scene. His trademark was slowing down a song when he remixed it. This process is called 'screwing' a song. Slowing down the song was supposed to recreate the effect of recreationally using codeine, also known as syrup or sizurp.
