Digitized
Broadly, to digitize something is to make a rough copy of it in digital form. How rough the copy is depends upon the sampling frequency used; a higher frequency of sampling producers a higher-fidelity copy.

In video games, the term often refers to scanned or photographed images that are included in the game. The fighting game Mortal Kombat became famous for using this technique, using digitized actors to create realistic-looking character sprites. Combined with animated gore, this resulted in a horrific effect at the time.

In this context, "sampling frequency" is often measured in dots per inch or simply resolution. If a video game artist wishes to photograph a door and insert an image of the door in a game, and is able to utilize a texture map with a resolution measuring 256 by 256 pixels, the door will look better than it would look if the resolution were only 32 by 32 pixels.

In sound editing, sounds from the real world are digitized, or sampled, via digital signal processing to create a rather large computer file that can be played back to approximate the sounds that were originally recorded. The mp3 file and the CD audio disc are examples of digitized sound formats.

In this context, "sampling frequency" is usually measured in kilohertz and a "sample size" of, for example, 8, 16, 24, or 32 bits. The approximation of the original sound is nearly exact if a sufficiently high sampling rate is used; CD audio's digitized sound uses a sampling frequency of 44.1kHz with a sample size of 16 bits.
