Diff'rent Strokes

Fan Fiction

Compared with shows such as Star Trek, the amount of Diff'rent Strokes-related fan fiction is not large. Ironically, in view of the show's well-known messages against child molestation and drug abuse, most fan fiction (or slash fiction) posits some sort of sexual relationship--often drug-fueled--among members of the Drummond family. The most common pairing is Arnold and Mr. Drummond. Other popular ones include Willis and Kimberly, Mrs. Garrett and Nancy Reagan, or Arnold and off-show characters such as Mr. T. The suggestion that Phil Drummond's motivation for adopting the boys was less than gentlemanly has become a piece of underground fanon. Many such works mock the show's title, attributing to it a sexual meaning. Racist or race-exploiting themes also loom large in this expanded "Strokes" universe.
