Department of Conservation and Recreation
The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is a state agency of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is best known for its parks and parkways, formerly belonging to the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC). Under Governor Mitt Romney, the MDC and Department of Environmental Management (DEM) were merged to form the DCR. The MDC's successors include the Department's Division of Urban Parks and Recreation and the Division of Water Supply Protection.

Residents of Eastern Massachusetts in the 1990s are most familiar with the MDC name because it was prominently displayed on signs surrounding many public green spaces.
