Deicing

Deicing is the process of removing ice from a surface. Most commonly referring to liquids applied to the wings of aircraft, deicing can also be done by other means and on other surfaces.

When there are freezing conditions and precipitation, it is critical that an airplane be deiced. Failure to do so means the airplane's wings will be too rough to be aerodynamic, thereby causing a loss of lift, and resulting in a crash to the ground. Because of the potentially severe consequence, deicing is done at just about any airport where temperatures are likely to dip below the freezing point.

Process: Process (lat. processus - movement) is a naturally occurring or designed sequence of operations or events, possibly taking up time, space, expertise or other resource, which produces some outcome. A process may be identified by the changes it creates in the properties of one or more objects under it...

Ice: Ice is the solid form of water. The phase transition occurs when liquid water is cooled below 0 ?C (273.15 K, 32 ?F) at standard atmospheric pressure....

Surface: In mathematics (topology), a surface is a two-dimensional manifold. Examples arise in three-dimensional space as the boundaries of three-dimensional solid objects. The surface of a fluid object, such as a rain drop or soap bubble, is an idealisation. To speak of the surface of a snowflake, which has...
