Def American
Def American was a record label which was founded by record producer Rick Rubin after he left Def Jam in 1989. The name of the label changed to American Recordings in 1993.

Initally Def American was distributed by WEA until 1998 when Columbia/Sony picked up distribution until 2002. Then Universal stepped for distribution until 2005. In the summer of 2005, American Recordings moved back to its original home of Warner Music.
