Jamaica's style of rapping that was the predecessor of today's rap/hip hop. It is also sometimes referred to as chatting, or toasting. Artists such as U-Roy, Big Youth, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer are some of the artists associated with deejaying. It has the consistent vocal rythm patterns associated with hip hop, yet instead of merely talking there is an actual pitch.
