Death Ghidorah

Death Ghidorah (デスギドラ) is a secondary Ghidorah battled by Mothra in the film Rebirth of Mothra. Death Ghidorah apparently grew from one of Grand King Ghidorah's tails severed by Mothra in the cretacous Period.

Death Ghidorah stands 100 meters tall and weighs 50,000 metric tons. This vile space monster is almost like an incarnation of death itself, being able to drain the lifeforce from other living things to fuel himself. At full power, the creature constantly emits a life-draining mist, which serves as a constant source of nourishment whilst devastating the countryside around him. He favours consuming trees as their lifespans are longer and thus their energy is more satisfying. He is capable of flight (though his speed is relatively slow) and he is able to spit magma-like blasts of energy from his mouths, as well as exploding fire-balls and sheets of flame. The evil beast's jaws are also super-hot, burning anything he bites like acid.

A brutal engine of destruction, Death Ghidorah tends to spend more time blasting the countryside then attacking his foe, combined with his problems focussing on a task and his short attention span, this well explains his defeat at the talons of the far weaker Mothra.

Death Ghidorah developed over the 65 million years following Grand King Ghidorah's defeat, eventually being awakened by a logging operation in Hokkaido. The beast had been sealed away be Mothra whilst it was developing, but the foreman removed the binding seal and thus alerted the wicked fairy Belvera to the discovery. Belvera secured the seal and released the monster, hoping to control him. Her sisters, the good Elias, soon arrived, summoning Mothra to again defeat the dread beast. But Mothra could not prevail against Death Ghidorah.

Sensing her distress, the unborn Mothra caterpillar emerged from its egg and came to its mother's aid. Even this was not enough, and Death Ghidorah drove both of his enemies away. The elder Mothra expired from wounds received in the battle. The younger sought out a mystic 10,000 year old tree, employing its ancient energies to transform into an even more powerful adult Mothra. The new Mothra lost little time in renewing the battle, handedly defeating Death Ghidorah and with the help of the Elias, once more imprisoning him within his mountain.
