David Soyer


 
 

David Soyer (born February 24, 1923) is an American cellist.

He was born in Philadelphia and began playing the piano at the age of 9. At 11, he started the cello, studying with various teachers, including Pablo Casals.

Chamber music has been a special love of his, and he has played with the Guarneri Quartet since 1964. He debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy in 1942, playing Bloch's Schlomo.

Soyer is on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Maryland, College Park.
